Tips For Outfitting Your New Truck For Off-Roading

If you just purchased a new truck that you plan to take off-roading, then it is important for your safety and security that you add a few items to it. Since a vehicle that is used off of the paved roads requires some special equipment, you should make sure that you equip your truck for off-roading soon before you venture out into the sand and mud. Here are some tips to help get you started in outfitting your new truck for adventuring in the wild outdoors:

Tip: Purchase Retractable Style Stairs to Assist You in Climbing into Your New Truck

If your new truck is too high off of the ground for you to easily get into it, then it is important for you to install some sort of stairs or running boards. However, since you will be doing a lot of off-roading in your truck, accessories that stick out and can be caught on brush and rock should be avoided. For this reason, it is better to purchase retractable running boards for access that you can safely store under your truck when they are not in use.

Tip: Install a Self-Recovery Winch on the Bumper of Your New Truck

One common thing that can go wrong when you are off-roading in your new truck is that it can become stuck in sand or deep mud. This fact makes the installation of a self-recovery winch a must before you ever take your truck exploring off of paved roads. If you have past experience with winching a stuck vehicle, then you can install your winch on the rear bumper. However, if you do not have previous winching experience, then you need to install the winch on your front bumper. The reason you should use a front bumper mounted winch if you are inexperienced is because it will be a lot easier for you to see what you are doing and maneuver your vehicle out of where you are stuck.

Tip: Install a Bed Extender if You Are Hauling Four-Wheelers or Motorcycles in the Truck's Bed

Finally, if you plan to haul four-wheelers or motorcycles in the back of your new truck's bed, then you should install a bed extender so that you can haul them. A bed extender is much safer than leaving the tailgate down on your truck and using red flags on the portion of your equipment that is hanging too far behind your bumper.
